Retired U.S. Army Special Operations Command Captain Joshua Martin, a 2008 Academy grad, has won gold in the Men’s Novice IAS2 – Standing Ski event at the 2025 Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured, and ill active duty and veteran military personnel.
Josh felt a strong calling to serve his country after the events of September 11, blending his passion for aviation with his desire to make a difference. Although he had no family history of military service, he graduated from West Point and was commissioned as an aviation officer in the U.S. Army. He became qualified in the OH-58D and MH-47G helicopters, serving with the 101st Airborne and completing multiple deployments with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
A serious vehicle accident ended Josh’s flying career, and he was medically retired from the Army. He went on to earn an MBA from Vanderbilt University and works for McKinsey & Company as a business consultant. Josh is married to an Army captain, and they have two small children.
Fifty competitors make up Team U.S., which is competing along with 22 other nations in the 2025 Invictus Games. Throughout the competition, events will take place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, from Feb. 8-16, 2025. The competition includes 11 different events, including six adaptive winter sports, the first year that winter-specific sports have been part of the Invictus Games competition.
